Hey Hoppy you going to make the 130%, by my calc it would be about a 3:00 minute lap.

Cheers

Hoping to run the under 2 litre car, but realise chances are of a spot are small!
Contrary to popular opinion, I do have mechanical sympathy, I always feel sorry for the cars I drive.

Hi all,
just thought I'd let everyone know that I received 106 E of I for the 2017 event and well start to go through them over the next week or so. I well get a couple of states involved in helping to pick some of the newbies that have not run at Bathurst before as they will know them and there cars better than me.
Obviously with only 60 spots available for the event, regrettably some will miss out which is a shame as I'd like nothing more than to give everyone a run.
After I have confirmed and finalized those that do get to run I will then be contacting those that did miss out and apologizing just so they don't get it second hand. Once all deposits are taken I'll then make public the list for 2017.

If things get to hectic Gary, you could always opt for a .... No maybe not
By the looks of things you will not have to rely on other classes, to prop up our entry requirements.

We all need to be realist Del, the sponsor needs to get a gig, after all is the most expensive spot on the Grid

If the "newbies" are being weeded out for not being experienced at Bathurst, how will they ever get on the grid and not be on the "newbie" list?

If we go off history, the fastest car with one of the most experienced drivers has caused incidents at the 2 recent years event..........

there is no "weeding out" of newbies Michael, actually trying to ensure that there are some given a chance to run :)

I calls it as i sees it Bruce.
2015 he threw it into the concrete all by himself.
2016 he had ample time to be patient and not risk getting involved in the race between the BMW and the rx7. If he had 2nd place on his tail then its a different scenario.

Anyway, lets do the same analysis on Combined Sedans this year. One of the fastest cars and most experienced drivers in the field had a brain fade into the first corner.

My point still stands. How can we single out "newbies" as being a problem? AND how do they ever learn Bathurst if they are not allowed entry?

That is great news! I look forward to the transparent communication to all the IPRA members with the selection criteria :D

You will need to ask those states that have been asked to select the one or two new comers how they are going to do it. Not my call as I explained above.

Gary,

As a recent newbie myself, it would be good if we (you) could organise a "newbie" familiarisation session on the Thursday afternoon for all categories including 12 hour guys. Say maybe 1/2 an hour in small groups, following experienced pace car driver around at no brainer speed, so at least come Friday morning the drivers know which way to turn, as well as not being daunted by the Mount. Anybody who stuffs up in this session(spin-hit wall etc) goes straight to jail, do not pass go.

Hi Bruce
Would like nothing better than be able to do that but unfortunately the cost and logistics of closing the road would prevent it I'm guessing and even if we could there would be a fee. I think the new event that is being run in November would be a perfect chance to do plenty of laps and I think there will also be some coaching staff on hand, but that does have a cost attached as well.
We had a couple of Bathurst newbies in the BMW's at the Easter 6hr and one in particular got his head around it pretty good after only a few sessions and managed some good laps times. I think its all in the way you approach it to a degree and you also need to show some respect for the track.
Getting track time at Bathurst will always be difficult

I too call it as I sees it Mik
That accident was 100% the fault of car being lapped, who was to my knowledge what you would call a "newbie". The RX7 moved over when lapped earlier, as expected of an experienced driver, and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time with nowhere to go when the contact happened in front of him.

Cheers
