Bathurst 2014

Post Number:#1  Postby gmontrack » Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:48 am

Just got back from the Bathurst Easter event where I had a meeting with Mr O'Brien (promoter of both events) regarding IPRA running at Bathurst in 2014 at the 12 hour event.
The 12 hour event has now become one of the major motor sporting events here in Australia and is also seen internationally as a "must do event" like other enduro events in the world, like Nurburg 24hr, Sepang, Spa, La Mans etc.

The IPRA category has been on the support program for the last 5 years and generaly we have had close to full grids in those 5 years.

In 2014 the support card is looking like being very small as the promoters are planning at giving the 12hr cars maximum track time which means less supports maybe only 3 categorys.

IP currrently has an opition to once again be on the support program with us running a two race format (2 x 10 laper's) plus the usaul practice and qlf sessions which is what we did this year. I have also been able to secure the pit area down behind the main garage complex which we have been in for the last two years. The promoter was looking at opening this whole area to the 12hr teams but has agreed to alow us to stay.

As this event is a very costly exercise for IP and once we sign the deal we are locked in, I would like to firstly try and get some feed back as to how popular this event is with IP members around the country.

I need to get an idea how many think this event is important for IP to be at and want to keep it on the calendar.
Would they want to still run with the two race format?

Thanks

That's great news Gary. Not a fan of the 2 x 10 lap format,prefer to see 3 x6 lappers.
It's a Holden thing ,you wouldn't understand!

One of the great events and important to IP. =D>

I like the format as of this year. With long safety car sessions at the track, a shorter than 10 lap race is likely to be finished under a safety car.

I'm in again Gary :D

Absolutely, my car is right and I will be there with bells on
Yes, 3 shorter races would be better and indeed would see more cars able to participate, a better show for everyone, but even if it is only 2 races I will do everything I can to be there
Contrary to popular opinion, I do have mechanical sympathy, I always feel sorry for the cars I drive.

I did Australian hillclimb championship there mainly to learn that part of the track, for when I go and do this event, I can concentrate on the downhill part, now all I need is the car to be right, and have 5k available at the right time to be able to go

I will beg, borrow or build a car to run again. After cutting laps at speed on A050s in the E30 with NSW PTCs at Easter, I WANT BACK IN!
