IPRA NSW - Round 5 - WP - 21st July 2018

Post by mikrace » Mon Jul 23, 2018 6:29 pm

Here is Race 1: https://youtu.be/OC4P4B7U-sY

Races 2 and 4 should be up tomorrow. I didn't have the camera in the car after the rush to put the spare diff in after race 2. Hopefully Dave Waldon got some good footage of the cracker race we had :D

Sorry, didn't have a camera in all weekend.
But it is all in my memory bank - awesome!

It is a shame we didn't get to finish the battle in the last race... But as you said in on the podium, my excuse of losing oil pressure and brakes was just a pi$$ poor excuse! LOL

Hope i can be fast enough again to play the next time we are on the track again.

Glad you got to had Spiteri and I to play with even though the field was so small.

Stupid question mate - but what's with touching your harness (i think ?) after each gearchange - did you think it had come undone or something ?

Looks busy in the cab, the old RX-7 has still got plenty of life left in it ! =D>

Haha. It is a "tick" i do when in auto-pilot with my head down. It is worse the more i am concentrating on the job  , in R4 after i concede that i can't keep with Waldon i hardly touch them at all. My friends all give me a hard time about it.

The steering box is not in good condition, so i am taking up the slack a lot. Also, i don't like the geometry set in that diff housing and it is a bit loose in the rear on rotation. Add to those i was trying too hard and hanging on! LOL.

The old girl gets a freshen up now before the Nationals, so hopefully it is more stable and quicker again through turns :D

Race 2: https://youtu.be/yUAkBbKXbXk

It is a short race for me :( :( :( with a stripped diff pinion caused by a foreign object... So i left the out lap in with some aggressive tyre warming and skidz to enjoy :D

Car was good and I thought I could have stayed on Spiteri in the Evo. Oh well, it can't be proven now either way....

Thank you to everyone that helped out, especially my mate Dave from Canberra that brought me my SMSP ratio diff nose and Joseph Lenthal for helping me slap it together to make Race 3. The taller diff ratio lost me a bit of lap time and, more so, harder to race without the good acceleration of the short WP ratio. It did not effect my ability to have fun and play with the great people who race in IP =D> =D>

It is an absolute shame that I didn't put the camera in the car for this race, as it was an absolute cracker! Waldon in the awesome rx3 and I are at it most the race. I was faster in some areas, he was faster in others. A real cat and mouse battle that is what IP racing is all about. We even got a bit of a standing ovation from the people freezing half to death watching the dog fight. Not one exchange of paint either :D
